Tips for travellers in El Salvador

Playa San Diego
http://elrobleelsalvador.blogspot.com/ The most chilled of hostels throughout Central America, according to the excellent, and independent, views of travellers on many websites such as Trip Advisor - http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g1777142-d1739068-Reviews-El_Roble_Hostal-Playa_San_Diego.html , Hostelbookers - http://www.hostelbookers.com/results/loc/dd/dst/150492/arr/2011-09-15/ngt/1/ and Hostelworld - http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/El-Roble-Hostal/Playa-San-Diego/30349.

Probably the perfect start, and end, to your Central American adventures. Check out the various links on our pages here.

La Ruta de las Flores

http://casamazeta.com/ - A great option for staying in Juayua, Casa Mazeta is an amazingly spacious colonial style home, converted to a hostel / guesthouse. Large, well tended gardens, vast kitchen for customers' use, and an attached garage for safe parking if you happen to be driving. Dorm beds and private rooms with en-suite facilities available. Hot water showers throughout.

A small bar for guest use is planned, as well as a mini-cinema with large screen Tv and huge DVD library. Casa Mazeta is going through major changes since the recent change of ownership. Expect to be amazed.

Tours offered, plus all the local information you need to explore Juayua and all of the ´Ruta de las Flores´. Fluent English and Spanish spoken. .

Santa Ana
La Casa Verde - Carlos has made La Casa Verde the only place to stay when you visit Santa Ana. Extremely affable and welcoming local guy. Spotless dorm and private rooms, well equiped kitchen, nice terrace.

Playa Esteron

http://www.latortugaverde.com/ Over to the east of El Salvador, and a little further on from El Cuco, is this wonderful sandy, gently sloping, beach. On it is this new hostel offering comfortable cabins, beach bar and excellent food.
(ps ...we are currently working on linking up to allow an alternative route to Nicaragua, by sea, lunching at La Isla Meanguera, and avoiding traversing Honduras by land at all. Write to us for updates)

Los Cobanos
http://hostalkalindigo.blogspot.com/ - Snorkeling, Scuba Diving, Whale Watching, Fishing and Turtles are some of the activities/attractions here at Los Cobanos, and Kali´s infectious spirit will keep your
night-times alive at this tranquil un-developed beach in the west of El Salvador.

El Zonte

Sunzal / El Tunco
San Salvador

www.hmesondemaria.com - This a relatively new hotel (LP a bit slow as usual) in absolutely the best location of San Salvador, just minutes from El MARTE (museum of modern art) El Museo de Antropolgia (museum of anthropology) arts and crafts markets, and the kicking bars, clubs and restaurants of La Zona Rosa. The Tica bus agency is right below, and buses pass by to drop you off or pick you up en-route to Guatemala, Nicaragua, etc. Rooms are spotless and rates start from $15.00 pp (ask for economia) dropping to $12.00 pp if you are travelling with Tica bus (ask for the 20% discount)
ps. if passing through San Salvador with Tica bus, try not to stop at San Carlos (the last stop) .... its ugly!!

joanshostal@gmail.com - San Salvador´s newest hostel, situated close La Ceiba de Guadalupe, and 10 minutes from La Zona Rosa. Also nearby are all of the capitals best shopping plaza´s with their modern shopping, nightlife and air conditioned cinema´s. Owner Ana Luisa is always at hand for info and very often willing to drive you to the best spots. If travelling with Tica Bus or King Quality, cheap transfers are readily available.

Dulce Nombre de Maria

http://manantialeselsalvador.com/ - An absolute personal favourite of ours. Not easy to reach, somewhat rustic, but with some of the best views of El Salvador, without doubt. Beautiful pool, fresh mountain air, decent hiking, and, if your lucky, night-times watching tropical, electrical, thunderous storms sweeping over you and then off into the distance. Breathtaking.
